GuideLine Polarized Sunglasses For Boating & Kayaking

Polarized Sunglasses are often seen being worn by boaters, whether it's sail boating or power boats. There can be some very intense sunlight out on the water, typically because there are bright, cloudless open skies and sun light reflecting off the waves and flat surface of the water. A good pair of sunglasses can be very helpful and pretty much necessary when trying to navigate your boat.

Sunglasses that have polarized lenses are important, but good UV protection is also essential when boating out in the open seas. UV protection blocks out the harmful UV rays, that can cause cataracts and even skin cancer if too much exposure is prolonged.

Polarized sunglasses come in all shape and sizes, colors and like anything else, all different price ranges. Some people prefer smaller size lenses, while others prefer the over sized sunglass lenses, which is the current fashion trend that you see many female celebrities wearing. It's always nice to look good when wearing your sun glasses, but on the water, whether it be fishing or boating, functionality is probably more important.

Polarized Sunglasses with a good wrap around frame are essential when boating, especially if you are in a boat that is traveling at high speeds. If your vision is restricted because you don't have wrap around sunglass frames, this could present a dangerous situation, where you cannot see other boats that are heading in your direction.

Keep in mind safety is something to definitely consider when choosing your polarized sunglasses. Fashion and comfort are important, but if you can't see properly when wearing your glasses, it is definitely not a good idea to wear them.

What to Look For In Fishing Sunglasses

Everyone knows that polarized lenses are important for fishing. What other features should I look for when choosing a pair of Polarized Sunglasses?

  • Comfort
    • When choosing your pair of fishing sunglasses, consider getting a very light weight frame that does not put pressure points on the side of your temples or bridge of your nose. Since fishermen spend long hours in the sun, sometimes from sun-up to sundown, comfort is a very important factor to consider. Bulky, uncomfortable sunglasses can be annoying when wearing polarized sunglasses for six hours or more at a time. Heavy frames that do not fit properly can also leave red, irritating marks on the bridge of your nose.

  • Non-Slip Frames
    • Another factor to consider when choosing your polarized fishing sunglasses is choosing a pair of non-slip frames that will not slip or slide off your face. This can be very annoying when you have to constantly be adjusting or pushing your sunglasses back onto your face. When choosing your polarized sunglasses, try to find a pair that has a curvature that conforms to the shape of your face, or has the flexibilty in the frames where they can be adjusted for a perfect fit.

  • Wide Temple or Protective Side Lens
    • We've all heard about the damaging effects of the sun, especially when you're fishing on a lake or ocean, where the sunlight is reflecting off the surface of the water. A good pair of polarized sunglasses will have a protective side lens or wide temple, which covers the sensitive skin around the corners of your eyes. This is the area where you get crow's feet and wrinkling of the skin. In addition, a side lens or sports wrap frame will protect the eyes from dust and the tearing effects of the wind.

  • Polarized Sunglasses with Good Vision
    • It's important to be able to see easily in all directions when wearing your fishing sunglasses. A lot of fishermen today have high powered fishing or bass boats that can travel at speeds of 70 MPH or more. When traveling at these high speeds, it's very important to have 100% vision to see other boats coming from all directions. Sunglasses that have limited vision can be dangerous when traveling at high speeds. Also, good  vision is important when searching for schools of fish or dolphin when ocean fishing. When choosing your polarized sunglasses, make sure you get a pair that has a wrap around type frame that provides 100% vision.

  • Durability
    • Another factor that fishermen tend to ignore when choosing sunglasses is durability of the frames, especially the finish. A good pair of polarized sunglasses should have a UV resistant coating on the frames, which will protect them from the intense sunlight that they are exposed to every day. Moreover, a good pair of designer sunglasses should have a salt-water fade resistant barrier. Around water your fishing sunglasses can be exposed to these elements, especially abrasive salt water, so having a durable finish is important.

Reduce Water Glare

The sun's rays are harsh and even more so for fishing and water sport enthusiasts who have to deal with the sun from above as well as the reflection on the water. Removing annoying glare greatly increases our ability to see into water, fish and other important subsurface structure  appear from below. Oncoming boats and snags previously hidden in water's  harsh glare become apparent.

This is where Guideline Eyegear's polarized sunglasses are a lifesaver.

The lenses are crafted using a patented processing technology delivering unsurpassed distortion-free, polarized vision. The polarized filter is sandwiched between two layers of crystal-clear, hard coated polycarbonate material. The result is lightweight, scratch-resistant, shatter-resistant,  polarized lens offering superior eye protection.

Completely unique to GuideLine, a complete award winning Bi-Focal range equipped with an additional magnifying feature for the up close and fine work.

Why should anglers invest in polarized protective eyewear?

Polarized lenses are beneficial to any sunglass wearer - especially for people who spend a lot of time outdoors or do watersport. They cut out glare, which causes distorted vision that results in squinting, headaches and eye fatigue. Glare also reduces colour and depth perception and causes eye strain.
